Lorea Azpeitia Anta

Lorea Azpeitia holds a PhD in Basque Literature and Feminist Criticism and is currently a lecturer at the Faculty of Education, Philosophy and Anthropology at the University of the Basque Country (EHU). In her doctoral thesis, The Memory of the Armed Conflict in Contemporary Basque-Language Narrative in Light of Gender Studies (EHU, 2024), supervised by Lourdes Otaegi, she analyzed the literary gender representations of female ETA members, questioning hegemonic discourses surrounding the Basque armed conflict and, above all, challenging the patriarchal narrative of memory. The thesis received the Special Prize in the Arts and Humanities area of EHU.

She has collaborated in several research groups and projects, such as the project “Portal de recursos acadèmics per abordar críticament la literatura que representa les violències masclistes”, directed by Professor Teresa Iribarren and funded by the Consell Interuniversitari de Catalunya. In addition, she maintains a close relationship with the Feminist Anthropology Research Group (AFIT) at the University of the Basque Country, for example through her participation in the book Sin permiso. Estudios feministas sobre el conflicto armado vasco (Bellaterra, 2025), coordinated by members of that research group.
